Workforce Development
PSSA’s workforce development efforts are designed to help childcare programs strengthen staffing, expand access to talent, and create stronger connections across the early childhood field.
Through initiatives like Palmetto Childcare Connect and the Acquire4Hire job board, we support programs in finding practical workforce solutions that help them stay staffed, supported, and ready to serve children and families well.
Two Key Workforce Supports
PSSA’s workforce page highlights two important ways we support the childcare workforce in South Carolina: Palmetto Childcare Connect, which helps programs think differently about substitute staffing support, and Acquire4Hire, which helps programs expand their reach when recruiting for open positions.

Palmetto Childcare Connect
Palmetto Childcare Connect is PSSA’s substitute workforce initiative designed to help childcare programs access staffing support when they need it most. It was created to address one of the most pressing challenges in the field: maintaining safe, reliable classroom coverage when staff are absent.
By strengthening substitute access and helping programs think more strategically about workforce support, PCC is part of a larger effort to keep programs open, stable, and able to continue serving children and families.

Acquire4Hire Job Board
PSSA members can also access the Acquire4Hire job board through the Resource Platform, helping programs share open positions more broadly and connect with potential candidates across multiple job sites.
This tool is designed to make recruitment easier by helping programs expand the visibility of their job openings without adding more manual work to an already demanding process.
The Acquire4Hire job board is only accessed by logging into the Resource Platform.
Workforce Support That Connects to the Bigger Picture
Workforce development is not just about filling positions. It is about helping programs build stronger systems for recruitment, retention, onboarding, and day-to-day staffing support so they can remain stable and continue delivering quality care.
When paired with Palmetto Childcare Connect and the Acquire4Hire job board, the Resource Platform becomes part of a much larger workforce support system. Members can access HR supports like job descriptions, interview guides, orientation resources, and the Orientation Toolkit, along with other practical materials that make hiring and staff support more manageable.
Together, these tools help programs address immediate staffing needs while also strengthening the systems that support recruitment, onboarding, and workforce stability over time.

In Partnership with SC DSS
Palmetto Childcare Connect is proudly offered in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Social Services (SC DSS). This collaboration helps ensure that licensed childcare programs across South Carolina have access to the substitute workforce support they need to remain stable, meet ratio requirements, and continue delivering quality care for children and families.
